photo240.jpg

Mordva / Mordovia:

Mordva is a region southeast of Moscow. The dolls from this region have a Turkish influence but they do not have Oriental eyes. Often the Mordva dolls have somber, pouting, or even angry facial expressions. They wear the Moslem veils or headbands.

This set is very typical of the Mordva region of Russia. The maidens have a very stern expression. Each doll has black hair and a red dot cheeks. They wear armless natural wood dresses with geometric shapes in green and red and a headband of yellow over a tall flat-topped veil.

Paint on the outer doll is faded (typical of this type of doll). The largest doll has two cracks.
