Even though this set is in pieces, it is extremely rare. The set features identical Black Men in minstrel fashion with totally black faces and big white eyes, red lips and white teeth (this style of doll is often called Golliwog dolls). As pictured in the Collectors Guide to Nesting Dolls on page 64, this set is listed from an “Unknown” area in the USSR, the original set would stand about 4” tall, but this set is incomplete and has one complete doll (#2) and three halves (#1, #3, #4). The original seller of this set guessed that they were German instead of Russian – perhaps they are.
