DC85. Unusual Bobble Head Kokeshi 5.25" 3pc

photo189.jpg

A most unique kokeshi "bobble" head doll from Japan. The large doll opens at the middle, and two small solid ones (also bobble-head) nest together inside. This set is very unusual due to the mixture of males and females in the same set. There is intricate painting and much detail. Even the two small nesters are unusual shapes, colors, and costumes! It should be noted that the top of the large doll simply rests on the base - not a tight fit like traditional nesting dolls. There is a nice patina to this doll, so she is "vintage" but I don't actually know how old. A similar doll is pictured and described in the Lefkovitz Collector's Guide to Nesting Dolls on pg. 96.
