Nested stacking King and Dwarves. Charming, simple shaped doll made of wood and handpainted. The outer doll is a crowned king and stacked inside are five dwarves of graduated sizes. Wood disk base is hand lettered: KAISER KARL Untersberg Berchtesgaden (Emperor Karl under mountain Berchtesgaden)
Paint is in good shape, no scratches or rubs except for some paint loss on the top of largest elf's head. Doll is 5 3/4" tall including wood disk base.
From the myth of Charlemagne and the dwarfs in the Unterbergs mountains. May be German or Austrian.
