This is a marvelous reproduction of the Belle of Khokhloma, a doll in the Moscow Folk Art Museum. The original doll was painted in Semenov in 1960 in the Khokhloma painting style used on decorative wooden spoons and tableware. The original doll is pictured in the book Russian Martyoshka (edition with black cover) on page 15.
This doll was custom painted by “Elena”, a Ukrainian artist living in Alcase, France and given to Barb as a gift from a good friend and fellow nesting doll collector from there.
